To whom it may concern!
This letter is from Yarsan Democratic Organization:
Yari is a Kurdish religion and have its origin from Kurdistan. The idea behind the emergence of Yari religion has existed long before lightheaded Soltan Sahak, around 800s, founded and declared religion as it is currently. Yarsanis are followers of Yari religion. The Yari religion was founded and established by Sultan Sehak and his companions based on a pact known as Pirrdìwerì pact (Biawbes Pirrdìwerì) in Hewraman of Kermanshahan in around 13th century A.D. Regardless of religious belonging, Yarsanis have cultural and social relationships with their neighbours’, in which they have managed to preserve their characteristics in different fields of the society in a peaceful coexisting. Linguistic similarities in form of dialect and common history and culture have played an essential role in strengthening these relationships.
On the basis of the writings in Yari claimed that Balule (one religious leader’s) was the first worked to revive the ancient Iranian belief. In the period 800-900 century A.D. collected and he organized people around Yari’s faith.
Yari is not an esoteric religion. Soltan Sahak declares Yari religion Perdiwer and alleges that Yari religion differs greatly from the Semitic religions and has its own doctrine and practice. Those who believe in the doctrine and practice become a Yari (supporter of yari religion).
Yari is a minority religion in Iran not even recognized by the theocratic regime. And according to the Islamic constitution in Iran, paragraph 12 and 13 belonging to Yari considered blasphemy and punishable by death. The audience of this religion is a vulnerable group for continuous oppression and risk not least total assimilation as a result of the regime’s political program.
After a member of Yarsan community with Yari faith were arrested and received his shaved moustache forcibly, appeared other two with the same faith in front of the house Hamadan province and set fire to himself in protest against the regime’s action. Recently died a yarsani soldier because of lack of access to medicines when he repeatedly requested medical assistance and monitoring.
The Yarsanians people have suffered injustice and discrimination during the regime 37 years Board. Although Yari religion is not awarded rights as a minority religion on an equal footing with other minorities in accordance paragraph 13 first Chapter in the constitution, but this action is in the opposite contravention of paragraphs 19.23 in Chapter 3 (nation rights). The action of the regime against the Yarsani community are violations of Articles 1,3,5,7,9 and 18 in particular Human Rights which Iran has signed and is committed to maintaining it.
Yarsan society is a society that has intensively experienced all kinds of injustice.
Their history includes continues struggle for protecting their identity and existence. Religious oppression in addition to ethnic discrimination, social and economical injustice and
deprivation of civil rights and common social benefits have resulted in individual defeat and disappointment, which consequently damages and paralyses the entire Yarsan society. At present, Yarsani inhabited areas are among the most deprived areas in Iranian Kurdistan. In the absence of freedom of civic engagement and lack of means for promoting scientific researches on history and philosophy of Yari religion, Yarsans identity and existence are seriously threatened. What most people know about the Yari religion today is some incorrect and contradicting knowledge, which doesn’t meet the needs of this society. Such a development will only devastate this precious and national heritage, which has own philosophical, historical, native and cultural characteristics.
The revolution of 1357 (1979) followed by changes in terms of political structure and establishment of religious role in Iran, turned into serious political and social disturbances and instability. The political anarchy and power struggle lead to insecurity in the society. The result of this political and social transition not only made the life difficult for political parties and organizations with different opinions, but also other social and cultural minorities suffered deeply, in particular the follower of Yari religion.
The conflicting principles of Yari religion with the Iranian Islamic Regime have subjected the Yarsan minority to persecution and discrimination in Iran. The Islamic regime is continuing its suppressive policy against Yarsan, as a religious minority.
Consequentially, this situation forced many people to leave the country and seek protection in other countries.
Yarsan community was among those religious minorities that suffered a great deal and became a victim in this political transformation. Currently, thousands of them are spread across Europe and other parts of the world. The severe condition of Yarsan community in Iran on one hand, and presumed political changes in the country on the other hand has encouraged Yarsanis in exile to organize. Accordingly in this way try to mobilize and establish a united front in order to initiate a struggle for demanding justice for Yarsanis, and prepare for the possible political changes in the future.
We urge and hope that you have more focus on violations of our human rights committed by the Islamic regime in Iran. We appreciate and ask you to establish a close contact with activists, politicians and intellectuals of Yarsan society, both in country and abroad. In the way you will be able to see and analyse our situation from different perspectives, namely how we have it as a group.
