Ilam’s Court Sentences Kurdish Poet To Five Years Imprisonment

Ali Mohammad Mohammadi, a Kurdish poet and political activist from Ilam have been sentenced to five years imprisonment by the city’s court on early October due to his comic poem when he was part of Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani’s election committee.

“During his speech in May 2017, he read a comic poem that Shiite’s eighth Imam is just an imam for conservatives not for the reformists,and Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) accused him of humiliating Shiite sacred Imam.”

According to the Democracy Center for Human Rights in Kurdistan, Mohammadi has been in jail since May and was supposed to be freed as IRGC withdrew from its complaint, “but despite the fact the IRGC withdrew from its complaint he was sentenced to five years in jail earlier this month (October).”

Born in 1968, Mohammadi is graduated from chemistry and is head of Ivan’s poem and literature society and one of the city’s political activists.
